Hello, Fellow Picture Book Lovers! Have I ever tell you that Join Klassen's picture books are always a classic to read? His works are always so simple yet its unique and feels very fun and light to read, here I have one of his works that I would love to share which is called "I Want My Hat Back".
The story begins with a polite and earnest bear realizes his beloved red hat is missing. Determined to find it, he embarks on a quest through the forest, asking each animal he meets if they’ve seen it. The rabbit, in particular, denies knowing anything about the hat, though something seems suspicious. The bear continues to search for his missing hat and asking all the animals he met along the way which in result he did not get any good signs of his hats whereabouts.
Disheartened after receiving no helpful answers, the bear sits down and recalls an important detail, and that is he has seen his hat before! With the newfound determination, the bear confronts the rabbit, who indeed has his hat. In a clever and understated twist, the bear reclaims his property, and justice is served, though the outcome is left intriguingly ambiguous.
The minimalist illustrations and deadpan humor make this a delightful and engaging story for readers of all ages. Its subtle wit and unexpected ending invite conversations about honesty, consequences, and perspective, making it a modern classic in children’s literature.
