Hello, Fellow Picture Book Lovers! My goodness, it's been a while, hasn't it? After the last blog I published, Someone gave me an idea and said, 'Hey, why don't you share a Picture book of my own to review?' And yep, here we are. I'm going to present to you the book I have created and tell you a bit about it!
'Pumpkin and the Witch' is a book I created in June as a final project for one of my finals. The story centers around a boy named William who has freckles on his face. His story starts when he sees some village kids playing outside, her mother encourages her to go out and make some friends while also telling William to stand tall and proud of himself. As he meet the village kids, they asked him bizarre questions which later he realized they were talking about his freckles. The village kids refused to be friends with someone who has 'dirt' on their face, and ashamed William ran to the forest for isolation.
William ponders why the village kids reacted in such a way, as he does a black mischevious cat named Rhea. The cat offer to try and help get rid of william's sadness, but little did william know, Rhea was no ordinary cat. And so, in a blink of an eye, william's face was covered with a pumpkin, and he wasn't able to take it off. William chased the cat and sure enough he met a witch by the name of Plum who was on the other side. Plum offered to help william with his problems and that is where william finds his answer to his dilemma.
Now, the reason I made this book is because I want to show children how to appreciate their beauty. Usually children are taught about life morals, well I wanted to tell children about self morals and values. Each person are unique and they shouldn't care what others have to think of themselves because uniqueness is what makes a person special. Having freckles or beauty marks shouldn't be seen as a flaw, and it doesn't just go for children but also all people, as we get older we age and we change, but that change shouldn't be count as something bad, but it should be embraced. I also love the theme of magic and how whimsical the story I made to make it silly and more pleasing for children's to read.
This may not be the usual blog, but I did have fun writing this and also sharing with you my very own picture book! It is something that I am very proud of to this day. Reading Picture books that others made has always inspired me to create my own, and I do have more ideas for the next picture books I want to create. That's all from me, if you are curious about my picture book, do go to this link down below:
